Cityscapes Gallery

XS ARCHITECTURE is an initiative of Cityscapes Gallery, an Amsterdam-based art gallery that opened its doors in 2011 showing works that intersect the themes of art and architecture.  Cityscapes aims to establish a stimulating dialogue between artists and architects, aspiring to provoke the interest of art institutions, collectors and the worldwide public.

A Platform for Artists

Established and rising artists with diverse backgrounds – architects, visual artists, photographers – can present their work with the gallery. Many visual artists research architectural issues, or use the built environment as a metaphor. Similarly architects create artistic objects in the flow of their utilitarian work. The result is work that crosses a range of media: drawings, paintings, prints, models, installations, photography, film etc.

Exhibiting in a Creative Hub

Operating from its base at Museumplein in Amsterdam, Cityscapes Gallery organizes regular exhibitions at different locations in the Netherlands and abroad in order to address spatial issues. How do artists with different perspectives reflect on buildings as essential experiences of the human condition? How do they depict the cityscape of the 21st century?

Building an Archive

Next to work by artists who are represented by the gallery, Cityscapes collects artworks by artists and architects that closely match its themes and guiding principles. The existing collection includes work by cutting edge artists like Gerrit Rietveld, Lebbeus Woods and Rem Koolhaas.

Collaborating and Customising

As a leading gallery showcasing architectural works, Cityscapes collaborates in special projects and site-specific artworks such as Power Flower with NL Architects and Passage de la Balleine with Giny Vos. For companies and institutions, Cityscapes Gallery offers art-lease arrangements. In collaboration with related artists and architects, Cityscapes provides customized design solutions.
